Maisie is an illustrator and author, living in Hull, in the North of England.

She studied illustration at Edinburgh College of Art and Cambridge School of Art. In 2015 she was awarded the International Illustrator Award at Bologna Children’s Book Fair, and in 2020 her book The Boy Who Loved Everyone won the Little Rebels Award.

Maisie’s most recent book, Two People Can, won the IBC Award in 2025, and the sequel to this story will be published in 2026.

Maisie loves drawing, in particular children and families, and trying to capture the emotions and interactions between them. She enjoys both illustrating stories and writing and illustrating her own ideas.

Maisie is represented by Neil Dunnicliffe at Spring Literary Agency.

I am named after Maisie Middleton, the main character from a children’s book illustrated by Nina Sowter in the 1970’s.

As a child I met Mairi Hedderwick at the local library and she signed my favourite Katie Morag story, The Tiresome Ted.

When Maisie left university, through the charity Picturehooks, she was mentored by Nick Sharratt, which was an amazing opportunity and experience.

Teaching

Alongside illustrating, Maisie is passionate about teaching children’s book illustration. She is a co-founder of the tutoring and illustration events company, Orange Beak Studio, has mentored for Picture Hooks and has also lectured at Cambridge School of Art.
